KiBoM, sometimes.But mostly manual in a spreadsheet. I have way more control over it since the decisions on what goes in the BoM depend on so many external factors.
Agreed. But there's this talk that I liked from Teardown 2019 - this which talks about the different things that you should have in your BoM to truly make it accessible, and open source. It's not comprehensive, but I feel that if it becomes some kind of standard then it would help in developing tooling around it as well.
And there are quite a few people of different tech backgrounds involved in handling BoMs as well - procurement folks, assembly line folks, QA people, designers, to some extent firmware devs as well. The more hands a particular file changes, the higher the chances of it getting tweaked beyond recognition 😅
